Dr. Meemersworth

Dr. Meemersworth, also known as Meemers, is a Scottish-Fold cat. He was adopted by Simon and Martina in 2013 while they were living in Korea, and has been with them after their move to Japan ever since. He was brothers with the late Spudgy.

He has appeared in a few videos, mostly in the Open the Happy segments and live streams. It is uncertain if he is a certified doctor.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Simon and Martina have always wanted to adopt a kitten. Simon recounted that he had four cats growing up in Canada, but for some reason, they ended getting their dog, Spudgy, first. In July 2012, the couple decided to adopt a cat. They first babysat their friend's cat for a month just to see if Spudgy would get along with his fellow felines.^[1] Once it was clear that Spudgy was cool with kitties, they went and adopted Dr. Meemersworth from a local pet shelter.

They initially mistook him for a she, and were beyond delighted at the little furball. As a tiny kitten, Meemers loved nibbling Simon's ear (He apparently was not interested in Martina's ear). Meemers would frequently appear in several other videos, such as one where is seen playing with string or with plastic bags and another with the camera in an adorable fashion.^[2]

A year after his adoption, Meemers became rather chonky, and the couple began describing him as a "fat fluffy cow". Growing up, Meemers wasn't without health issues, as he had trouble with his bladder, and had to seek medical attention for his condition. He took several medications, which helped him recover fully from his condition.

Move to Japan[]

Prior to Simon and Martina's move to Japan in 2016, Meemers and Spudgy stayed with a friend. The move proved to be complicated as Japan had strict pet import laws. After a short period, the two finally made their way to Tokyo and have since lived happy lives. Meemers is especially sweet to Martina when she is suffering from her chronic illness.
