Martina Sazunic is a Canadian Youtuber. She is host of the youtube channel King Kogi. She is also the co-host and editor of Eat Your Kimchi, a vlog channel that introduces aspects of Korean, Japanese, and Canada culture to their viewers. She and Simon had lived in Korea for seven years prior to residing in Tokyo, Japan.

She was originally an English teacher prior to vlogging full-time. She personally enjoys eating, drinking coffee and discovering new music. She dislikes the words “moist, leotard and puce,” alone with eating celery. She suffers from an illness known as Ehlers–Danlos syndromes (EDS) , a genetic connective tissue disorders that gives her chronic pain, and an issue she discusses it openly in her channel.

Martina has degrees in English, philosophy, world religion and teaching, which all took a total of 6 years. She taught in Canada before teaching in Korea.

Martina Sazunic, born May 1st, 1983, is the second daughter of her mother and father, she grew up and lived in the same house just outside of Toronto, Canada.

Move to Japan[]

  • Originally Simon and Martina planned to move to Japan, but once they got comfortable in Korea they decided to stay there.
  • In 2015 Simon and Martina closed the Eat Your Kimchi Studio and moved to Japan in hopes of exploring different parts of Japan. While they are not at the studio anymore, they will continue to make videos.
  • She created the blog, Painfully Cute: Brace Yourself for Fashion.
  • They briefly held the segment, Eat Your Sushi where they discussed their daily lives and life in Japan.

2016 - August 2020

  • The first Eat Your Kimchi Podcast appeared on SBS Pop Asia on February 29, 2016. The last EYK Podcast aired June 25, 2018.
  • They started the Tokyo Tales Podcast on July 2, 2018.
  • Martina created Martina's Midnight Munchies
  • August 16, 2020: Simon and Martina released a video announcing that they had moved to Canada during the Covid-19 Pandemic. They are starting with a blank state and making videos about things that bring them joy. 

Move To Canada[]

August 2020 - Present

  • Martina wrote that her plan was to spend more time with her mother, learn recipes for Midnight Munchies, and Build A Ladder segments to stay creative.
  • December 8, Martina launched her new Youtube channel, Instagram, & new clothing brand: King Kogi.
  • On February 11th, 2021, Simon and Martina announced that they had decided to separate.
  • Martina announced she is creating a Digital Cookbook Creation with our Community 👑🐷 King Kogi - EP 1 and will be streaming the process both on Twitch and Youtube
    • It's unknown how long she will stream on Youtube, due to Twitch's TOS regarding affiliated channels not being allowed to stream on Youtube
  • Martina guest starred, "Martina from Eat Your Kimchi & King Kogi talks BTS & their influence on Korea part 1 & part 2." Or listen to the entire podcast episode. She commented she plans to do future podcasts with the hosts.
  • Martina opened up the King Kogi Discord.
  • September 8, 2021 Martina announced she would be going back to Japan.

  • Martina loves Sailor Moon, Hello Kitty, King Kogi, and other cute things.
  • She helped create and design her sleeve tattoo. She also has a tattoo of cherry blossoms on her feet.
  • She grew up in a Roman Catholic family and attended a Private Catholic College in Toronto
  • Martina lives with chronic pain, EDS (aka Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome). In hopes of keeping a positive attitude and wanting to help others, she created Build-A-Ladder. In a week, she'll always have 2 very bad days, a bad pain day and a recovery day
  • EYK actually grew because of Martina's involvement in the Korean English-teaching community, where her videos would get shared amongst that group and eventually the internet.
  • She spends hours a day responding to people on EYK and king.kogi's instagram and sets aside time to interact with the community.
